Listen to lead

Managing things is truly a tough job . It is not only identifying resources and allocating them as and when needed (now, when I say resources, it also includes the human resources), but also about sorting out differences (amongst people) and convincing them to do the job. It becomes particularly difficult when you have too many managers (self-proclaimed) in your team. They just spoil the dish. This problem becomes evident in a situation where you dont have a single, pre-decided manager. The best way I see in such situations is to pro-actively support those guys who want to take the initiative and then, fall behind them till they finish the job. This sounds some thing like managing the managers. Though people might not realize this, its still an efficient way to get the things done.
I remember, during one of our corporate outings, we had a group activity, which needed us to divide ourselves in to 4 teams and then, compete amongst us. My team had around 12 members and most of them were willing to direct some one else rather than willing to listen to some one. They had ideas and were hunting for people who would implement them. At one point, we had almost 9 people talking simultaneously and incessantly and hardly anyone listening to them (yeah...you guessed it right.. the other 3 were not interested in listening at all). At this point, I had a choice to make, either continue dabbling (like others) and then, loose the competition or be a manager's manager.
I stopped explaining my ideas. Instead, I picked up a guy who was speaking some thing sensible and listened to his ideas keenly. Once done, I started asking him questions and by this time, other people also started noticing the things happening around them. Slowly, about 50% of us were doing just one thing. That was listening. As and when some credible objections came up, there were alternate views and suggestions. Finally, after about 15 mins, I could see everyone looking at me for a chance to explain their ideas. They have, in other words, accepted my leadership. However, one thing I should agree here is that, content wise, I was not adding any value but I was doing some thing more important than that. I was coordinating. I know, at the end of the day, no one might accept me as a leader but they cannot certainly deny the fact that they accepted me as an interlocutor (at least).
This satisfied me. All that I wanted was to have a cohesive effort rather than a spate of incongruent tries by the team members.

One more important thing that I have learnt from that day was to listen. The art of listening is really important. You can never co-ordinate things amongst a group unless you listen to your members keenly. Some people have an opinion that listening to some one hampers their prospects of speaking. I would like to contradict this because if you carefully observe, 60-70% (typically) of the team members prefer speaking rather than listening. Hence, there is a dearth of listeners and not speakers. Once you start listening to them and start involving them together, you would not only get the chance of speaking but also get the privilege of coordinating and leading.
Hence, the thought for the day is ‘Listen to lead’…doesn’t that sound gud ;)))

A day at SOS Village

Today, I woke up at 8:00 AM, quite an unusual "wake-up" hour for me on a saturday. Got up early 'coz I had to visit SOS Village. We were totally four. Me, Imran, Sindhu and Prashant. We all met up at our office, where I and Imran parked our bikes, and from there, we left to the village in Prashant's car. It was about 30 mins drive from the office. Though the road was narrow, never the less, it was still decent. The best part was that four of us got so well with each other that at the end of the day, we became good friends. We reached the place at about 11:00 AM. Thanks to Srini Gadde, the director of the NGO knew that we were coming and so, he was waiting for us. He received us cordially and lead us to his room. We discussed our ideas and policies with him and explained why we were there.
He was very happy with what we proposed and quickly agreed to it. He then took us around the place. The whole place was green and serene. There are about four buildings, with each building housing three homes. These are supposed to be the places where the kids live. Each home houses about 10 kids and every home has a mother, who is supposed to take care of the kids. We met one mother there and she was very good to us. While we were chatting with the director, she went in and brought us tea and snacks. We were surprised 'coz we did not expect such hospitality. When we told her that she should not have taken so much pain in preparing things, she smiled and replied ' Oh..you are my guests and you came to my home for the first time. I guess, even you would do the same thing if I come to your home' . That was enough for us. We could not agree any better with what she said. After she spoke those words, our basic attitude towards her and the kids changed drastically. Till then, we were looking at her as just for care taker of kids but after that, we could see a mother and a true host in her. We felt really happy about that. We were at the right place. Now, its all up to us to add some value to these people ( and ofcourse, to us as well).
We proposed three things to the Director. One was to conduct a dental camp at the village. The second one was to help the village build a bio-waste treatment plant. And finally, we asked him if we could celebrate diwali with the kids. He was truly delighted by this idea. He gave a big smile. We got the message. After going around the place, we went in to the pre-school and met some kids there. They have guests very rarely. On seeing us, they were so happy and elated that they started reciting rhymes. They were also dancing to those rhymes. Watching them sing and dance was truly an experience that I can never forget in my life.
After bidding adieu to the kids, we four went to subway for having lunch. While having lunch, we discussed about the things that we could do. We also divided responsibilities amongst us as to who would do what.
After that, I came back home. Though physically not at SOS now, the memories are still vivid and heart rendering to me.
I’m eagerly looking forward to work with them.

Another Day

Yesterday was yet another hectic one. . Though the morning went off fine, the evening was too cramped. First, I had to attend the volunteers meeting in the evening, which, went on till about 8:30 p.m :( , forcing me to post-pone my other appointments.
However, one good thing about this was that we could finalize our new project for the coming GVD. We zeroed our choices to SOS. SOS is an NGO Home for the orphans. There are about 50 children for now, most of them, falling in the age group of 8-12. One good thing about SOS is that it's a adequately funded international organization, the exact kind of NGO we were targeting this time.
Before I go any further, let me explain a bit about GVD. It stands for 'Global Volunteers Day' where in the employees of Oracle volunteer some man hours of work towards any social cause. It's a world wide event, where in the Oracle Volunteer chapters present all round the globe participate. The basic modus operandi is that every chapter comes up with some projects, each project involving about 20 to 100 volunteers and about 2 to 10 project leaders. The event usually happens on a week-end where in people get some free time.

Now, about SOS. SOS Children's Village Hyderabad is a member of the SOS Children's Villages of India group, which in turn is a sister concern of the SOS Kinderdorf International foundation, head by Mr. Helmut Kutin. Each of the children's villages is divided in to homes and the kids are divided amongst the homes. Each home is taken care by a Mother, who takes care of all the needs of the her children. The children are all orphans, most of them, who had lost their parents in the natural calamities. The NGO takes great care of these children by providing them not only with their physical requirements but also their emotional and psychological requirements.
Working with this NGO should be truly a wonderful experience. Now, guess what.. we have decided to celebrate our Diwali with these kids, this time. And it does not end there. We are also planning to conduct some sports events and some other competitions for the kids.
We are yet to finalize the proposal. I guess, we should be done with this latest by tomorrow evening. Once that is done, we need to start preparations for the events.
So, eagerly waiting forward to working with the kids.
To continue from the point I left, soon after the meeting, I left to my flat. On the way, I remembered some thing. Vimal was supposed to leave that day to US and I promised him that I would come to see him off at the airport. So, I called him and found out the timings of his flight. It was at 4:45 AM ...phew.....I had no other choice but to get ready and go back to his house. Soon, all the ICs gathered at his home and we had a blast for about 4 hours, with the usual doses of banter and satire.
Finally, at about 2:00 AM, we started to Airport, bid him adieu and went back to our respective places. Hmmmmm....after a tiring day, nothing is more comforting than a good sleep.

Rising for the Rising (pun intended)

Hi,
These days, have been really busy organizing the Mangal Pandey premier show for the movie club. This show was for a premium, with the ticket priced at 90/- , which is almost double the ordinary price. We planned to donate the surplus, so collected, to an NGO called Little Angels for Aged, which serves the old people who were abandoned by their kith and kin. It does an excellent work and certainly needs a helping hand from us. Ora Vols( Oracle Volunteers)® have been associated with this NGO for some time.
The project started with high expectations, with an initial plan of donating about Rs. 15,000/-. However, suddenly, the entire momentum was lost and things started crawling. We had to run places just to make sure that the entire event wouldn’t turn up in to a fiasco. Finally, it ended up in a decent way. We initially started with the target of selling about 250 tickets and if still people were left, we thought we would conduct one more show the next day. Though the bookings started the way we expected them to, but as the time progressed, bookings almost got stagnated. At this juncture, we had to some how see to it that the bookings picked up again. So, we decided to send the org-wide mail, reminding people that the bookings were still open and that they could still avail the opportunity. This helped us a little. Also, I reduced the total number of tickets to 200 and cancelled the plans of the second show totally. Even this could not solve our entire problems. Just to make things worse, our strength went down by 3. We had too much of work and too few people to handle. Being the in charge of the Movie Club, I literally had to spend my entire time for this, on the day before the show. I had to collect the money, go to the theatre, pay the guy, get the tickets, group the volunteers, sort the tickets, distribute them and collect the money. To top this, there were many small issues like seat adjustments, last minute cancellations and requests that ate away my working hours. We were finally left with four un-sold tickets. But, that’s O.K. finally had a decent surplus. I guess, with the money so collected, we will be able to give something to the NGO.
From all this, I have learnt one thing. Never take things (and people) for granted. This will only inhibit you from planning for contingencies. I presumed I would be able to sell all the 250 tickets and so, did not really care to think about what I would have to do in case I was not able to sell them all. Also, I still feel the timing of the show was not apt. Had we gone for a first show or a matinee, we could have sold more tickets. Any ways, I don’t have any regrets because all these are just lessons to learn and nothing more than that.
Well, time for me to have a shower and leave for my friend’s treat.

The humble politician - The 'Man' of India

"I have no hesitation in apologising not only to the Sikh community but to the whole nation because what took place in 1984 is the negation of the concept of nationhood and of the Indian Constitution. On behalf of the Government and the entire people of the country, I bow my head in shame for what happened,"
--- Man Mohan Singh

This reminds me of Lal Bahadur Shastry, the iconic Gandhian, who once filed his resignation, while he was the railway minister, because a train accident occurred at that time. Brave men, indeed!!! No doubt that our new PM is one amongst those few commendable politicians our country ever had. He is not just a just politician but a scholar of exemplary intellect and above all, a humble gentleman. People like him are the living icons of an almost forgotten entity in our lives. Moral uprightness.
When was the last time you heard an apology from a politician? When was the last time you saw a politician coming out by himself/herself for a voluntary cause? In a country which has been infested by politicians like Lalu Yadav and Narendra Modi, people who fight their entire lives just to amass wealth and status, its really difficult to come across things like this. Such acts would be even unthinkable to these politicians who breed on caste, religion and money. Unfortunately, today, we call all this as Politics. Seems like they have changed the meaning of the word it self.
Plato, in his Republic, states, “a ruler (politician) is one who is neither partial nor weak. He is the one with an strong moral conviction and one who looks at the entire society as a single family”.
Thank god, he is still not alive.
Well, ’m in no mood to criticize these political morons now. Rather, the reason why I got to writing is to glorify the acts of those brave men who have burdened themselves with the responsibility of building the country’s destiny, on their backs. One important thing all these people have in common is humbleness. In spite of their towering achievements and magnificent deeds, they never cease to be humble, staying true to the age-old adage ‘Vidya vinayena shobate’.
Hopefully, my county will have more such politicians who stand for truth, justice and humanity, which have been the pillars of my grand civilization.

Dental woes

'Root Canal treatment is the onyl possible solution to your problem' said the doctor. These days, the right tooth was paining like hell. I thought it was time that I consulted a dentist.
'It costs you a total of Rs 6800 . You can as well pay by card' said the assistant. Hmmm...that was a huge amount for treating just one tooth. But, I didn't have any other option either. Cursing my negligence, I acquiesced to the doctor's suggestion.
After a pre-medication period of 3 days, the root canal treatment wa done today..oh god...the very thoughts of the treatment itself is sending spasms in my body. First, the doctor administered the local anesthesia (oral) to the upper gum and then, he started piercing needles ( of about 3 inches length) in to the canals of the tooth to clean them. Later, he removed the nerve in the root of the tooth and showed it to me saying 'This is the living part of your tooth. This is the one that causes the pain in the tooth. Now that its removed, it wouldn't pain you any more". There was one female doctor who was assisting him. He called her and showed her the nerve. Her reaction was phenominal. Disgruntled looking at that, she said 'Please, dont show me such things'. I asked her 'why?'. She gave a stupid smile 'I dont know. I have always been allergic towards such things'. couldn't help laughing 'coz being a doctor, I thought she would have seen much more annoying things than a 1 inch nerve. The worst part was the anesthesia. I felt like my entire right cheek was dead and numb. It was more like a dead part.
Anyways, after the 45 min saga of piercing and scrubbing, he placed some cotton dipped in medicine and asked me to come next Tuesday for the dressing. Hopefully, this time, it would be so painful.
Well, the good news is that there are no diet restrictions and also, most importantly, I can start using my tooth from the next week onwards (believe me, I haven't been using it for the past 7 years).
Guess, that was an awkward topic to blog up on. Never mind.

Hum Tum

well, let me pick up the topic that is close to my heart and mind as well. Can 'Hum' aur 'Tum' ever be friends??

To start with, I guess, Hum, Tum are quite immature characters(no matter how hard the author tried to breathe in extra
matured ness in them, which is rare in children of that age), but when blown up and viewed in a larger perspective, its
a thing that we all get to see every now and then in our lives............either experiencing it our selves or by seeing
our frnds....

'Can 'Hum' aur 'Tum' ever be friends??' Well, tough question in deed but, I guess, the answer is simple though.......its
a BIG YES......ok..yeah...I am able to hear you guys shouting at me to give reasons..... well, then, firstly, hum and
tum are humans........now matter what ever sex they belong to, I guess, they still have many in common between them,
both physically as well as psychologically....... pretty much true, right.......So, I don’t understand why this should
not happen…..(coz bloody anything can happen amongst us creatures…strange. isn’t ??/) but, yeah.....I agree that still,
the magic of the opposite sex works on a person....I bet most of us(or can i say, all of us) agree to the fact that the
relation between a male and female is more strong and intense with emotions than the relations with in the same
sex........ and why, I attribute that to the human curiosity. Its like the other creature also belongs to the same
animal family (Homo Sapiens) but its behaviour is pretty much peculiar( mark my words...its just the behaviour and not
thoughts...there is a lot of difference between them) and at times, very much alien and strange....probably, its this
curiosity in us that pulls us to the opposite sex and forces to figure out those things....and once they we close, its
as natural for us to get in to a relation(deeeeeeeep)........... Well, I can also see, at times, the tolerance that we
put in such relations is exceptionally high.......for example, a friend I knew in the college never allowed any one to
touch his hair.....(well, he suffered from a kind of XXXXXXXXXXANTIAPATHY, which even I dont know....) but, one day,
when I was coming back from college, I have seen his female sitting next to him and dabbing him on his head over and
over......and when he noticed me seeing that, all our hero cud do was to give a dazed smile...well, I bet many of you
would have found ur selves in similar situations either on the victim's side or on the subduer's side....well, what ever
it may be, its I guess, pretty much true that this could also be a reason for the relations between a male and a female
getting intense (and also, constantly on the verge of collapse, once it reached the zenith of closeness. probably,
because u were never yourself with the other person....hope I am not confusing u guys here)

So, this is where, we feel tempted to declare that relation has digressed from the original path of friendship.... Well,
before answering this, my question to u guys is, who has defined friendship? and if at all it is defined by some tomm,
has he also made it clear that this is what it shuld be when the people involved in this are of opposite sex? and if at
all he has defined it so, why should I buy that when it does not convince me enough?

No two relations are alike... and hence, even the friendship that I call can be some thing different to some other
person....and at times, it might differ from my own relation with some one else...so, why so we need to fix these terms
when that is not really of any practical use for us? I remember people saying 'My wife is my best friend....' now, what
does that mean? what happened to Hum n Tum here?

So, in that sense, any relation between a male and a female can be considered true friendship( or what ever name you
give..it does not matter) as long as it is not based on physical lust(as far as I cud see, this is the only qualifier
that puts the two people in to a different identity of relation than the one we have been (rather, were made to be)
calling friendship)..... well, once again, I say, lust should not be the reason for that relationship and that’s
it...nothing less..nothing more...(obviously, I guess, no harm as long as it is ancillary)

So, my view is "lets stop kvetching about things that we are not really interested in and that are not really useful
either... and try more to enjoy the company of people....."

Women empowerment

The afternoons are always lazy.... particularly in summer......and the best way to pass them off is to watch TV....
So, I picked up the remote and started browsing the various channels...when suddenly I came across a beautiful female talking some thing. She was so pretty that for once, I felt I should not possibly disappoint her..(after all, I was thoroughly convinced that she was there just for me....or else...how could you even expect to have beautiful females beaming out on the TV screens at mid noon when it was always the turn of stupid soap serial junk...) anyways, I thought I would waste some time listening to what this female would talk about......
And guess what the topic was: "Women Empowerment: Its relevance and scope in 21 century..."
Well, agreed that its one of the most discussed topics of the century (or should I say, even the last century). However, I think there is pretty much more that needs to happen in the future.
Actually, the episode I watched was a part of a 3-day programme (probably, taken up on the eve of the Women's day) and the discussion that day was more focussed on "The various Threats that women face in their day-to-day lives".
A string of interviews followed the introductory note. Though the sample set of females that have been selected were from diverse backgrounds (from working women to college students to female activists) one think that it lacked was views from the village women. This had, in some extent, brought some kind of disparity in the nature of the discussions. On the whole, all of them unanimously agreed to the fact that though there was some over all elevation of the female status in the society and in fact, in some of those areas that were once thought to be absolute male bastions, a majority of them are still discriminated and were utterly suppressed.
There were views from various sections that the sexual discrimination (and if we have to put it strongly, then sexual harassment) has been still rampant and freely adapted in various parts of the society.
This remembers me of a discussion I earlier had with one of my friends. He almost burst aloud when I said that there was sexual harassment. He could not disagree any better. He told me ‘Come on boss!! Just take a look at the chicks spending their entire nights at the disco and driving back home as safely as they would go from one room in their home to the other. Do you still think that there is a need of talking about things like ‘Women liberalization’ and similar stuff…’
I could not help but to sympathize with this friend of mine about his ‘authentic and over all knowledge ‘ on the state of affairs of women discrimination. I asked just one question. ‘Fine that you see females coming to discothèques but what is the answer that you have got to the report that puts the number of registered female discrimination cases every month is about 1 lakh in our own state? And what about the 25 lakh female feticide cases that get reported every year in our state? If this is just the number of cases registered, then, you could probably guess the actual numbers. ’

Discrimination is there and we all have to accept this.
Before we jump in to ways of tackling this issue, it would be much more clear if we could look at types of discrimination that the society currently faces.
Well, as far as I could see, they could be broadly categorized in to three.
1. Social
2. Economical
3. Political

With in the social, we could bring in three more sub categories namely, discrimination at work place, at other public places and domestic discrimination.
Though a particular type of discrimination might be valid only to a limited section of the total female population, never the less, all of them have equally contributed enough to the present day woes of the female community. For example, the discrimination at work place might be out of context in case of housewives, but nevertheless, these entire factors roll up to the same cause.
Now, the descriptions of the above classifications are pretty much obvious from their definitions.
Once again, these might not be so much evident in a modern society but as we go down the ladder of society, they are so ubiquitous that one cannot miss spotting them, probably, almost everyday.
Trying to find out the root-cause of this social monster, one plausible reason for this is a deep rooted, multi headed age old social discrimination based on gender that has been possibly passed across generations, making this just not another social issue but one with an equally bizarre cultural and ethical dimensions attached to it. This aboriginal system has been augmented, over periods, with loads of abstract theories and views and of course, foul motives, a complex human mindset, inherent with gender discrimination.
One more reason could be an evident imbalance in the physical capabilities amongst the two genders (in earlier times, at least), which could have led to an equally or even more worsening of the already existing situation.

When one female was asked as to what irritated her most, she vociferously complained about the disgusting and disparaging acts of ill behaviour of males in public transport. However, when asked for a plausible solution, she merely said in monosyllables “Nothing…They have to change”.
Though the females were all the while lamenting their problems, there was no constructive suggestion given to tackle an accosting issue nor was there any clarity on the consequences of these acts of discrimination.
Unfortunately, not even a single voice spoke of the current trends that are seeping in the society through the media and its adverse effects on the people.
The vision media, particularly since the later part of 20 century has become a very power full and equally dangerous tool in the human hand. It could work effectively in building a just society or also, push the entire social structure in to unending depths of failure and incompetence.
Discrimination of genders has been the order of the day even in the media, particularly, in the cinema. How ever, very little is really done to counter this trend and bring some kind of gender equivalence.
Also, on the political front, they have virtually no say. Apart from a very puny minority, most of them have no say in the political decisions taken by the various political bodies. The evident example is the fate of the women reservation bill which has been lying un passed on the floor of the parliament, in spite of a decent strength of female parliamentarians on the floor of the house.
Even though most of the parties are wielding female candidates in to election forays, some back seat drivers, who contrive the whole scene effectively, do most of the administration.

Even after so many laws and acts passed in favour of women empowerment, one valid reason that strikes me for the discrimination to be so rampant is the basic definition of the whole problem.
The whole issue should not be conceived as a mere struggle between female and male population but a larger and a much wider fight between human and in human forces. It’s not always necessary that only a female could sympathize with another female’s plight. It could be a male also. The popular idea of gender battle should go. Also, the problems should be openly discussed and acknowledged and for this, the females for once have to agree that they cannot bring the change all by themselves. They have to give in to the fact that, at least for now, they are not equal to the men and so, this is the high time they stopped projecting their equality and work for attaining that. Otherwise, even the last man who would sympathize with them might start thinking other wise.
This problem could be only addressed by a collective force and not by any one individual group.

Hie

Hi,
I'm back. Right now, in the office trying to figure out what to do. It happens for everyone, I suppose. I'm sure no one would be 100% busy with his/her work.
ok..ok...heard that. enough of justification. As I promised, I'm back to tell you a few things thats been happening in my life.
First, I'll have to undergo a root canal treatment as one of my tooth had a cavity. The doctors there at the hospital told me that its now kind of severe and so, I have to get treated lest it should pain me more.
Nyways, so, this Thursday, I'll be once again on a leave. That makes two days in this week. Its ok..I guess, I have to, at times, utilize my CLs or else, they would just go waste.
The worst thing is that this tooth-ache has lead to head-ache as well :((( Seems like all the bad things are coming together.. .I remember one of my grand mother's adage (which she used to repeat oft) 'Good luck comes alone but bad luck comes with all its sisters'...ofcourse, I don’t want to talk much on this 'coz neither do I believe in this nor I bother to counter this.
What else?
Seems like this week might be a bit less hectic. have not yet got the project allocations from the boss. The funny thing about this is that I narrated the same to one of my friends yesterday. After listening to the entire thing, he commented...'so, you are on bench now'. I just could not avoid laughing, This guy is from a services company and so, he's got used to a kind of of classification as billable or bench. The last time I was 'On Bench' was in Kanbay. But, those were the hey days. I used to come at 11:30 in the morning (???) and would walk directly to the library, just to save my self from my Team Lead. I would sit there for about an hour and then, would finish my lunch and only after that, would I come down to the cubicle. Of course, he( my lead) never came to me asking where i was. Probably, he was also enjoying his 'bench Period'.
What else?
Mom is back to Hyd. She is going to stay for one more month with me. She is kind of got used to Hyderabadi climate. The other day, when I called her when she was in Vij, she was telling me that she could not bear the heat of Vij ( She has been staying in viz for the past 25 years :))))
Well, what else?
I guess, that is it, for now. Shall talk to you some time later. Till then,
Luv

After a tiring week-end

Hi,

last weekend was truly hectic. I had to run places just to fulfill my committments (and of course, my interests). However, at the end, all the pains I took seemed useless 'coz things did not go the way I wanted them to . First, I could not stick to the plan, that I initially charted out, 'coz I missed my bus. I had to post pone the entire trip by a day. Luckily, I could make it up to the marriage ( well, if I have not mentioned it, I went to my home town to attend the wedding ceremony of one of my school friends). I actually ended up at the function hall with my entire paraphernalia because I had to go to the function hall straight from the bus station ( as I was afraid I would be late for the wedding). It was great meeting all the old class-mates and had a decent time with them. Everything went fine but one. There has been this one person who was kind of aloof. I some how, could not digest this. This person was really a good (close as well) friend of mine and we spend lots of time with each other talking about various things. Assuming the closeness in our relation, I thought I could discuss anything with this person and also, could share my feelings and thoughts, in general ( and vice-versa). However, off late, I found out that was not the case. Instead, the person was becomming more and more formal with me and worst of all, this person ( I felt like) was drifting away from me. Now, I know what you would say. You would say I started becomming possesive and started expecting things from this person. But, let me tell you one thing. Had this person been like a friend, I would not have thought some much about this. Neither would I have given a damn had this person been never close to me and never talked things that were personal and were close to heart. However, what makes me feel most uncomfartable is that I'm just not albe to accept this shift in the relation from a very close friend to a person of some acquaint. Not sure even if this is the case. I might be wrong in my interpretaion of this person and this person might be just the way this person has been since we met.
Anyways, I guess, I dont have time now to really fret over such things now 'coz I have other really important things to worry about. The next few months are supposed to be really crucial for me in all ways.
I thought I would talk a bit about another topic this time, but got carried away ... nyways, I pormise I would put that as well some other time...Till then,
luv

Fate of my city!!!!

Yesterday, the president came to my City on a two day whirilwind tour. Well, the gift he brought us with him is an additional waiting period of 1 hr on the road in peak hours of traffic. As I have already said, the city ppl are already frustrated with the frequent traffic break downs and vehicular congestion. You could imagine what it would be like to a guy who gets himslef completely drenched in the rain, waiting, on his bike, for the president to leave. I dont blame the big man ( and I dont dare to do so 'coz he is one of those few presidents whom, even a common man would remember for times to come, thanks to his vision and his guidance to all the indians). My target is some one else. Ofcouse, you wont get any gift for guessing it. Its none other than the state governement. The fact that the traffic police has cblocked a few routes in the President's convoy was not annouced in advance. I saw many vehicles helplessly going back all the way to where they came from 'coz they were not allowed to go any further.
I some how have the feeling that the curernt goverment has been doing very little on the infrastructure developement. All the roads in the city are the ones laid by the previous governement. Surprisingly, the current government spent almost nothing on the city development and beautification. The other day, I heard some one saying that in this one year of the current govt rule, we went back five years in terms of city infrastructure and facilities. All the development projects came to a big halt. These days, you find many roads weathered out totally and many of the proposed new reoutes are not brought out of the maps of the MCH. Also, the city's parks that once were very famous are now in pathetic condition. The propsed outer ring road plan that was kicked off with great enthusiasm was dropped because of political reasons.
The public aslo has startedcasting serious doubts on the commitment of this goverment towards the city.I guess, the government should take serious steps to wipe off this image, it has built for it self, form the people's mind. The best way would be to pro-actiely take up the development of ciy which includes re-funding many of the infrastructure projects the previous government started. If it still dallies on this point, the city would soon give in to chaos 'n confusion and the current goverment would be wholly responsible for this.

Expectations (Broken.....)

'There are some things that you expect others to do, some things you expect others not to do and there are some things that happen by themselves'...this is from the popular serial 'Sex n City'. Though, in the first read, its sounds some thing that is more obvious and some thing that does not need a special mention, it reveals more as we think about it. This could probably be the simplest way any one could say about something that is so complex and intricate. I mean, the expectations and how they influence most part of our lives.
Analyzing the statement, I see the first two parts as almost similar. In both the cases, you expect others to do some thing. I mean, asking some one not to do some thing is also like asking them to do. However, there is a thin line between these two. The kind of options in the first case are very limited. i.e. when you are expected to come early, it means, you have to come early. Even coming on time will not do. However, when you are expected not to come late, it means that you could as well come on time and still be safe.
coming to the third phrase, these are some things out of our control. These happen just because they have to happen and you can't blame some one for their happening.
I know all I have done is to just analyze the three phrases. I thought I would talk in depth about expectations, but guess, I have already done that earlier.
So, shall end this mesg here (abruptly...I know, this is some thing which you might not have expected from me...but that is how things are...so, better luck next time... ;))
